How to Pay
Metro Payment Options
Metro provides a variety of different ways to pay for your bus fare. Each option is designed to make your Metro riding experience convenient and gives you the ability to purchase your bus fare from just about anywhere.
If you’re going to be a frequent Metro bus rider, we recommend downloading the Token Transit app. You can purchase any pass, anytime. You also can transfer passes to other Token Transit users, and no physical pass or cash are required. To use your pass, show your screen to the driver when boarding. We recommend that you carry an alternative fare when you’re using the app in case your phone runs out of battery or your device malfunctions.
Riders also can purchase passes and tokens in various forms and quantities at the Metro customer service counter inside the Kalamazoo Transportation Center. We have eight token machines located throughout the greater Kalamazoo community, too. For a list of all token vending machine locations, visit our Fares page. Token vending machines can dispense 14 tokens for $20. We also accept cash or coins, but bus drivers are unable to make change, so bring exact fare when you board. We offer the use of a Renewable Value Card. You must load $30 on the card at the time of the initial purchase and the card itself costs $5.
Lastly, all students, faculty and staff of Western Michigan University ride for free by showing a valid Bronco I.D. to any Metro bus driver.
The video below also explains the process and options of how to pay. You can find details about fares on our Fares page and on the Token Transit app. Please direct any additional questions about how to pay by contacting Metro customer service at (269) 337-8222.
